It has been a goal of mine to run this for a long time. I began training in November just to give myself lots of time to prepare. I was amazed each time I reached a new mileage record- from 7 miles to 20. These last six months have been spent running and running.... and running. It has really been like a second job. After running three 20 mile runs, I was feeling ready to take it all on. I had a time in mind that I wanted to reach and was pretty confident I could do it. I was nervous/excited all week knowing that I would finish this goal that I had worked so hard for. As I write this post I realize this is not the report I was wanting to give. I would love to brag about my time and say how awesome it felt to finish, but today did not go the way I expected AT ALL, but I guess that's life. So here is my experience....</span><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3-KER6xHDGI/TdhwxS_SW1I/AAAAAAAAA3I/7GB4fK-NiPg/s320/DSC04226.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609357328103136082" /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Here I am so excited to get my number and tag with my name on it:)</span><br /><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lPZ6ZL2qIzQ/TdhxKpy-N7I/AAAAAAAAA3Y/LnCgGoIkEOE/s320/DSC04230.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609357763722229682" /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Of course, I had to take a picture of one of the training schedules I followed.</span></div><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fwINYwy7t5E/TdhxKVmrvwI/AAAAAAAAA3Q/nitzgSIWEaw/s320/DSC04228.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609357758301978370" /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">These lovely ladies have become my dearest friends especially since we spent every Saturday morning together trekking along to get our miles in. </span></div><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cpqqooOZd1Q/TdhwwQmfK_I/AAAAAAAAA2w/fUYh7iARYP0/s320/IMG_1419.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609357310282378226" /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">So nervous this morning as I got ready, but so excited to wear my cute running skirt.</span></div><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WRLcBc-AizE/TdhwwPE14CI/AAAAAAAAA2o/qrMdJpQfi3Q/s320/IMG_1418.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609357309872824354" /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">All ready to go load the bus at 4:30 a.m. and ready to get this day started. I was feeling pretty good here and was making great time. My time at the halfway point was about 1:55, which I was pretty proud of.<br /></span><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GAhR7QieSso/TdhwwlVmGCI/AAAAAAAAA24/AGgDfatdeJQ/s1600/IMG_1435.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GAhR7QieSso/TdhwwlVmGCI/AAAAAAAAA24/AGgDfatdeJQ/s320/IMG_1435.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609357315848673314" /></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><br />I knew at this point I just needed make it over the next big hill that overlooks Pineview Dam and then I would hit the canyon and finally have a downhill break. But that's when my day changed a bit. As I was going up the hill, I started to not feel so good. I remembered when I ran this hill last year it was hard but nothing I couldn't push through. But this time I couldn't push through the pain I was experiencing. I decided to try walking a bit and told my friend to go ahead of me. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span> That's when the dizziness hit. I dumped water on myself and did anything I could think of to feel better. I wasn't sure if I was hitting that "wall" that you hear so much about. I couldn't imagine that I was since I was only at mile 17. I soon realized I was going back and forth on the path and running into people because I was so dizzy. My friend behind me caught up with me and tried to encourage me to keep going. My running had drastically slowed down to pretty much walking. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">I told her I didn't feel good and I was just trying to make it to the next aid station when my body just couldn't take anymore and that's when I collapsed. It is all kind of a blur to me because I was in and out of consciousness while throwing up with lots of medics around me. I felt like I had given up and tried to convince them to let me just finish, but I couldn't even sit up so I was obviously not going anywhere. I even remember saying "But I have to finish because I have such a cute running outfit!" I was so devastated that I couldn't finish and my dear friend stayed with me the whole time and gave up her own goal as well. I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. So I did make it down the canyon, just in a bit more flamboyant way:)</span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> They found that my blood sugar was at a 38 and my body was going into shock because of it. They said 60 is the lowest it should go so mine was dangerously low and it was surprising I had made it to mile 17. I also was very very dehydrated. I also learned that I unknowingly had been dealing with a little stomach bug this week that I had chalked up to just being nervous with anticipation. So the stomach problems caused even more dehydration and mix that with low blood sugar... and voila you have me lying on the side of the road. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">I have been pretty disappointed that I wasn't able to finish today. This was definitely a curve ball I didn't see coming. So maybe one day I can post my finishing time and say how good it felt to cross that finish line. Unfortunately it just wasn't going to be today. But I am still very proud of all my hard work anyways! I am also grateful to be feeling much better since leaving the hospital earlier today.<br /></span><br /></div></div>Brock and Arriennehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16747583132741599355noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106365503995814665.post-64853214967991795882010-10-24T13:55:00.000-07:002010-10-25T20:06:43.205-07:00What have we been up to?<div><div><div><div><div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><span class="Apple-style-span">I have no excuse for being such a lame blogger! That is definitely one of the big perks of teaching elementary school. We are taking full advantage of the summer by having as much fun as we can. We went on an amazing trip to Hawaii with some great friends. We left the day after school let out and it was the best way to relax after finishing my first year!! Then a week later we had an awesome family vacation with Brock's family to California. The big highlight of the trip was attending the U.S. Open... Brock was in golf heaven along with his dad and brother. We have also absolutely LOVED having all of our family in town. Brock's sisters have been here from Arizona and my sister has been here from Vegas. I just love summer, family time, and all the great festivities!! It's all going so fast...</div><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TCjg7ZbRMoI/AAAAAAAAAzE/2hGTmwMkt4k/s320/P5290015.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487883456993112706" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></div><div>Getting ready for Hawaii</div><div><br /><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TCjg9mfLDKI/AAAAAAAAAzk/g0MjoiH1jp0/s320/P6010129.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487883494858886306" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></div><div>Aaaahhhhh so much fun!</div><div><br /></div><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TCjg8IgYIqI/AAAAAAAAAzM/T9bV11mrcak/s1600/P6030415.JPG"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TCjg8IgYIqI/AAAAAAAAAzM/T9bV11mrcak/s320/P6030415.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487883469631005346" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a><br />Our awesome friends we went with Eric and Jessica Garner.</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TDkVxa9138I/AAAAAAAAAz8/cz93grZwp5g/s320/DSC03901.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492445159351508930" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></div><div>Enjoying the Cherry Days parade with our adorable niece Maylen.</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TDkVwF5cFBI/AAAAAAAAAzs/cEsTdvehZ8w/s320/DSC03891.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492445136516027410" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></div><div>Brock and Jake... this is what Brock looked like when he was a baby.</div><div><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TDkVwkYo6yI/AAAAAAAAAz0/Z7CuBJD0ruc/s320/DSC03898.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492445144699956002" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></div><div>We love all of our nieces and nephews.</div><div><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/TDkVx-uNG4I/AAAAAAAAA0E/4RBdQhDLfyI/s320/DSC03905.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492445168949599106" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></div></div><div>Hiking waterfall canyon and hauling baby Brighton the whole way just because I love him so much (and I wanted to burn lots of calories! haha)</div></div>Brock and Arriennehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16747583132741599355noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106365503995814665.post-88226521359226996952010-05-16T12:23:00.000-07:002010-05-16T12:35:50.424-07:00Ogden Marathon<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S_BGVRWP5TI/AAAAAAAAAyk/jNO4_CdtS2Y/s1600/DSC03839.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S_BGVRWP5TI/AAAAAAAAAyk/jNO4_CdtS2Y/s320/DSC03839.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471950878503068978" /></a><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S_BGVRWP5TI/AAAAAAAAAyk/jNO4_CdtS2Y/s1600/DSC03839.JPG"></a> I would love to lie and say that I just ran the full Ogden Marathon, but I am pretty sure everyone would know I was lying. So that will be a future goal... one day right! But I must admit I was proud of myself for running in the Marathon on a relay team. It was so much fun! I just loved running with everyone. My leg was only 5 miles. I started at Eden Park which was the halfway point for the marathon. So I got to see all the full marathoners hitting their halfway mark... so inspiring. My leg ended at The Oaks in the canyon. I stopped and passed off to my teammate and then I realized I was having so much fun I didn't really want it to end so soon. So I decided to just keep running. I also told Brock I just wanted to keep hitting up the rest stops with everyone passing out drinks and refueling snacks... haha. But I ended up just running the rest of the marathon. So I really ran 13 miles which I hadn't thought that I could do before! So it was all to my advantage. I also didn't keep track of my time because once I was done with my leg, my time stopped. Yes, at first you may think it sounds or even looks disgusting but don't judge to fast. This is a favorite in my family and everyone that tries it also LOVES it. It is also pretty healthy so it is the perfect treat!</div><div><br /></div><div>Ingredients:</div><div>1 banana</div><div>1/2 can of pineapple with juice (no sugar added)</div><div>1 small container of vanilla yogurt ( the carbmaster Kroger brand is my personal favorite)</div><div>ice</div><div>lots and lots of spinach- I usually just fill up the rest of the blender until I can fit no more</div><div>*optional- If you would like to make it a protein smoothie you can add vanilla protein powder. I haven't tried it yet, but have heard it works great.</div><div><br /></div><div>Blend all ingredients together and enjoy!</div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S_BET7BOOSI/AAAAAAAAAyE/hfcyTkFFy_I/s1600/DSC03836.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S_BET7BOOSI/AAAAAAAAAyE/hfcyTkFFy_I/s320/DSC03836.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471948656306174242" /></a></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S_BET7BOOSI/AAAAAAAAAyE/hfcyTkFFy_I/s1600/DSC03836.JPG"></a>The green color also makes it twice as appetizing don't you think? I just have a quick post about some people that have inspired me lately. I am sure many of you have seen the Liberty Tax Dancers out on a busy street corner dancing to advertise during tax season. Many of the "dancers" stand still and simply wave while others really "bust a move." In particular, there is a dancer on main street in Bountiful that really has it going on, and the most amazing thing about this guy is that he dances out there for hours and is grinning from ear to ear as he waves at all of the cars. I can tell that this guy is in his mid-30s and probably has a family of his own. First of all, when I see him, it makes me very grateful for my job. Second, it makes me think of how I choose to act while I perform my job each day. Although this guy probably had work elsewhere in recent months, he has now been forced to do anything he can to support himself and his family and he does it with a huge smile. This man has encouraged me to smile more each day and hopefully I can inspire someone else as he has inspired me.<div><br /></div><div> <img src="http://www.hyperborea.org/journal/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/dancing_liberty.jpg" alt="Dancing Statue of Liberty" /></div>Brock and Arriennehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16747583132741599355noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106365503995814665.post-25562169669241056182010-03-04T21:01:00.000-08:002010-03-04T21:02:04.294-08:00My best friend the chef.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S5CJ6eqAaLI/AAAAAAAAAv0/Z6IjkF3VFvo/s1600-h/DSC03792.JPG"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S5CJ6eqAaLI/AAAAAAAAAv0/Z6IjkF3VFvo/s320/DSC03792.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445003587245598898" style="cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px; " /></a><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/S5CJ6eqAaLI/AAAAAAAAAv0/Z6IjkF3VFvo/s1600-h/DSC03792.JPG"></a>I just wanted to wish my forever friend Lindsey Scano a very happy birthday today!! I blame it on two things... 1- being stressed and busy and 2- our posts will never be quite as exciting since we came home from Germany! We are doing great amidst our schedules. I am still getting a grip on being a 2nd grade teacher of 29 and Brock is finishing up his last semester at USU. We hardly see each other throughout the week, but we still make time for fun. Here are some pictures of our latest get away to St. George to meet up with Brock's sisters who live in Arizona. We love any chance we get to see them and their adorable kids!<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SuZwZ54KpnI/AAAAAAAAAsg/W93Lp0nBB3Y/s1600-h/DSC03259.JPG"></a><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SuZug6MN7KI/AAAAAAAAArY/P5PfxXH4paQ/s1600-h/DSC03184.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5397122715105488034" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SuZug6MN7KI/AAAAAAAAArY/P5PfxXH4paQ/s320/DSC03184.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SuZwZhHcftI/AAAAAAAAAsY/Lb_sBfhzePs/s1600-h/DSC03187.JPG"></a>This is us at the Dixie football game. I have been working hard and running around like crazy to get my room put together for the school year. I am so excited/nervous to teach 2nd grade. I really can't believe that I will have 27 of my own little darlings from 9:00 to 3:30 every day. So after lots of stress, work and A TON of help from all of my family, I think my room is finally ready for Monday. But of course, ready or not the circus will begin!<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SpBTxl8bGpI/AAAAAAAAAqo/wFLMIJytwT0/s1600-h/DSC00335.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372886466917243538" style="WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SpBTxl8bGpI/AAAAAAAAAqo/wFLMIJytwT0/s320/DSC00335.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />I made it through back to school night and I'm pretty sure it went so well because of my favorite purple dress that I had been planning to wear since June haha.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SpBTxbP41-I/AAAAAAAAAqg/RGYJAlNZ4OI/s1600-h/DSC00338.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372886464046094306" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SpBTxbP41-I/AAAAAAAAAqg/RGYJAlNZ4OI/s320/DSC00338.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />This rug is my favorite part about my room. It isn't always easy to be in a new place with different people, a different language, and different challenges, but Arrienne did awesome and I will always cherish our summer here together. We did so many things and saw so many beautiful places that we probably wouldn't have been able to do at any other time in our lives. Arrienne did great learning German and adjusting to the culture. By the end of the summer she could really communicate well and express many things to the Germans. What I was most proud of is that she bore her testimony in German the last two Fast Sundays we were here in Germany. I love you sweetie and am so grateful that I have such a beautiful wife that is willing to go out on a limb and be adventuresome!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SoMSlXnTPdI/AAAAAAAAApY/zQ2qQ9eKf9k/s1600-h/DSC03011.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 307px; height: 230px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SoMSlXnTPdI/AAAAAAAAApY/zQ2qQ9eKf9k/s320/DSC03011.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369155613959077330" border="0" /></a><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SoMSlXnTPdI/AAAAAAAAApY/zQ2qQ9eKf9k/s1600-h/DSC03011.JPG"></a>Arrienne's last night over looking our beautiful village.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SoMSkkVVJjI/AAAAAAAAApQ/hBZCUZy_Blc/s1600-h/DSC03017.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 230px; height: 307px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SoMSkkVVJjI/AAAAAAAAApQ/hBZCUZy_Blc/s320/DSC03017.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369155600193496626" border="0" /></a></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SoMSkkVVJjI/AAAAAAAAApQ/hBZCUZy_Blc/s1600-h/DSC03017.JPG"></a>Taking Arrienne to the airport. This is an area that Brock spent six months of his mission in. We got to stay with the Jobs family who are absolutely the most kind, loving, and practically perfect family! They had the most adorable kids and we just loved spending time with them. While we were there they took us to one of the coolest places we have ever been. It was a windmill park! There were giant windmills from all over the world in this one place. It was so beautiful! This was definitely one of our favorite places we have been this summer. We truly felt like we had stepped into Holland. The funny thing is that there were bus loads of people there from Holland because it is so rare to have this many windmills all in one place and they wanted to see it.<div><br /><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Sm8F8qDh2yI/AAAAAAAAAlA/6LFL5TC4JnY/s320/DSC02866.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363512220860930850" /></div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Sm8MNo_WebI/AAAAAAAAAmw/4qU1KAkrLAk/s1600-h/DSC02947.JPG"></a><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Sm8F99bSbcI/AAAAAAAAAlY/Hmd4lJv7H14/s320/DSC02873.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363512243240725954" /></div><div>Us with the cute Jobs kids. My mom absolutely loves windmills and tulips and anything about Holland. The reason is that when my cute sister Jayclyn was born with Downs Syndrome it was quite a shock for our family and especially my mom. This story called "Welcome to Holland" brought her great comfort throughout the many difficulties that come with raising a child with a disability. </div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px; font-family:'times new roman';"><p align="center"><b><span style="font-family:Arial;"><i>WELCOME TO HOLLAND</i></span></b><i><br /></i><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;"><i>by Emily Perl Kingsley</i></span></p><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;"><p><i>I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this...</i></p><p><i>When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.</i></p><p><i>After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome To Holland".</i></p><p><i>"Holland?!?" you say, "What do you mean "Holland"??? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy"</i></p><p><i>But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.</i></p><p><i>The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.</i></p><p><i>So you must go and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.</i></p><p><i>It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around…and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills...Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.</i></p><p><i>But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy...and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned".</i></p><p><i>And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away...because the loss of that dream is a very significant loss.</i></p><p><i>But...if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things...about Holland.</i></p></span><p style="font-size:8pt;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:Arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">We are so grateful to</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"> have Jayclyn in our family and windmills are one sentimental reminder of the great blessing she is</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:'times new roman';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"> in our lives! We have been doing so much lately it feels a little overwhelming to blog about. So here are some glimpses into what we have been up to. The time has gone so fast and I can hardly believe that I will be home in a little over a week. We have been so grateful for the many many awesome experiences we have been enjoying!<br /><br /><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm5KxsPM9I/AAAAAAAAAkA/f_xw7afksB8/s320/DSC02788.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362020426149999570" /><br />The vineyards are all blooming right now so our little village looks gorgeous! Our pictures don't quite do it justice. We have been wishing we could have Camille Garrison just come and take our pictures for us haha!<br /><div><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm5LBjgSEI/AAAAAAAAAkI/zUuCyOKszUM/s320/DSC02790.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362020430408337474" /></div><div><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm5MdxjrXI/AAAAAAAAAkY/1UwR9qqJpwk/s320/DSC02823.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362020455163342194" /></div><div>It is so fun to ride our bikes on the many trails around our house. I am trying to enjoy it all before I have to come home.</div><div><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm_NKoEwoI/AAAAAAAAAko/OnUvw9irTEc/s320/DSC02578.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362027064272929410" /></div><div>This is my new friend forever Esther. I just love her! She is the sweetest, most fun girl ever. I want to be just like her. She also speaks perfect English because she served a mission in the states. I just wish I could bring her home with me.</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm_MulxfwI/AAAAAAAAAkg/UccJoTItCNM/s320/DSC02579.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362027056747085570" /></div><div>This is the Muller family. They are such a neat family and we love spending time with them. They have been so gracious to invite us over a few times.</div><div><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm_NjJER8I/AAAAAAAAAkw/9GpTxXZYMo4/s320/DSC02576.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362027070853760962" /></div><div>Esther and her brother Micah. Both of them are so great! He speaks great English as well because he served a mission in England. So you can see one reason why I personally love hanging out with them. </div><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm5LtjvY-I/AAAAAAAAAkQ/3bmAL7gs2MY/s320/DSC02820.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362020442220487650" /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm5LtjvY-I/AAAAAAAAAkQ/3bmAL7gs2MY/s1600-h/DSC02820.JPG"></a>This is me on an elderly field trip if you couldn't already tell that I am the only one without the need of a walker haha. The cute lady right next to me is Christa. She is Esther's grandma and since I have some extra time on my hands she likes to invite me to do things with her. So this was quite the adventure! I laugh every time I look at this picture.<br /><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SmmP4K1vQaI/AAAAAAAAAiA/Aj5T4k3X9UY/s320/DSC02600.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361975026506482082" /><br />We finally made it to the beautiful Frankfurt Temple. I was really grateful that we made this trip. I also realized how grateful I am to have so many temples so close in Utah. I definitely need to take more advantage of this great blessing.</div><div><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SmmP4dO1DuI/AAAAAAAAAiI/fKNIlEndk5Q/s320/DSC02615.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361975031443558114" /></div><div>While in Frankfurt, we also got to spend the day with one of Brock's favorite mission companions- Elder Dong. It was so much fun! This is the companion that I thank for teaching Brock how to make yummy Chinese food. We had a blast at this Chinese restaurant where you cook your own food on the grill in the middle.</div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SmmP4w4EswI/AAAAAAAAAiQ/PhcLPxigS4s/s320/DSC02658.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361975036716823298" /></div><div>I completed my German class with flying colors. I definitely understand so much more which has been nice during the moments that Brock talks and talks...and talks to people in German. So I can usually follow the conversation, but not participate as much. I can say a lot as well, I just get a little nervous to say much. As you can see, I was able to meet a lot of cool people from all over the world. Their are six more classes they all have to take to get jobs. So I only got the first introductory course. </div><div><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SmmSzqUMxTI/AAAAAAAAAiw/Ogrg59awMq8/s320/DSC02687.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361978247591281970" /></div><div>We had so much fun in Hamburg hanging out with this awesome couple. This is Steve and Babett. Brock baptized Steve right before he came home and then Steve baptized his wife six months later. It is a really awesome story and they are still doing so great! They are such a neat couple. Babett is also an amazing clothes designer and she specializes in wedding dresses.</div><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SmmP5i7bd-I/AAAAAAAAAig/b9kypvTtRG0/s320/DSC02679.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361975050152671202" /></div><div>Hamburg is known as one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. </div><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SmmSzNtdBjI/AAAAAAAAAio/z9R6GOd5-Nk/s320/DSC02688.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361978239912576562" /></div><div>On the docks in Hamburg. </div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Smm5KaymLtI/AAAAAAAAAj4/0t8B6YxN754/s320/DSC02762.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362020420002655954" /></div><div>After our time in Hamburg we rode a train the the beatiful city of Luebeck. Brock said it was cool because it was just like the BBQ they had put on for him before he left that area. We had such a fun weekend and we were sad to say goodbye to all the people we got to spend time with. It has been so neat to see how the church truly is the same all over the world and the members are just as loving and generous. </div></div></div>Brock and Arriennehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16747583132741599355noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106365503995814665.post-40376184697769020502009-07-10T11:42:00.000-07:002009-07-10T11:54:07.533-07:00For your entertainment...Brock has been making a video of our Europe trip using all of our fun pictures and videos! We left early Saturday morning, spent the day in London, and went back home Sunday morning. It was a very fun adventure and we packed it as full as we possible could. So here is how our day in London went. <br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SktvGF4TNHI/AAAAAAAAAh4/O_oFYIcdYxE/s1600-h/DSC02484.JPG"></a><br /><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SktvF-fekYI/AAAAAAAAAhw/Z-qb0mZ7Kow/s1600-h/DSC02468.JPG"></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SktvFYtkl-I/AAAAAAAAAho/-gp30bpS8PQ/s1600-h/DSC02469.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SktvFYtkl-I/AAAAAAAAAho/-gp30bpS8PQ/s320/DSC02469.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353494720383588322" /></a></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SktvFYtkl-I/AAAAAAAAAho/-gp30bpS8PQ/s1600-h/DSC02469.JPG"></a>We left our village at the bright hour of 5:00 a.m. so that we could make the bus into the city. Then we took a train to an airport, flew on a very cheap flight, and rode a bus into London. It all sounds like a hassle...which it was! It is the same trip that she and I took four years ago together. So on Tuesday I got a call that they would be in Munich that evening. I had totally forgot that my mom would be in Germany that day. I wasn't sure if I would get to see her because it is about three hours away to get there. I am also not to confident about traveling alone. But of course since I have such a wonderful husband he made it all happen! We found a carpool online to get us there at night. Brock got me to the hotel where my mom was and then had to turn right back around and go home with another carpool since he had to work the next morning. I was so excited to see my mom! We had so much fun together. Isn't she just so gorgeous! I always hope I look as good as my mom when I get older.</div><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SkN0Oyd4VOI/AAAAAAAAAeI/m7gWE7G1WW0/s320/DSC02385.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351248579660371170" /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SkN0OcfqrSI/AAAAAAAAAeA/W-KsEFL287g/s1600-h/DSC02379.JPG"></a>I tagged along with their tour group and we visited the Dachau Concentration camp. We were so excited to have Brock's parents come and visit us in Germany. I definitely lucked out the most because while Brock had to work throughout the weekdays, I got to travel all over with my fabulous in-laws. We had so many fun adventures throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. We wouldn't have been able to see so many awesome things if they hadn't come and I was so excited to spend time with family! Here are some highlights from our travels.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoMMkVt0tI/AAAAAAAAAaY/Xl2sdJAYJyM/s1600-h/DSC01979.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348600917508608722" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoMMkVt0tI/AAAAAAAAAaY/Xl2sdJAYJyM/s200/DSC01979.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />Brock and I celebrated on the day of our 1 year annivarsary by eating out in this beautiful little city called Esslingen.<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoMNd4Tj3I/AAAAAAAAAao/Lc6w8KUqXEg/s1600-h/DSC01992.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348600932954509170" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoMNd4Tj3I/AAAAAAAAAao/Lc6w8KUqXEg/s200/DSC01992.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br />While we were in Austria we hiked up these amazing gorges. I wasn't alone though because all four of us were in shorts and t-shirts, but luckily we did have very warm jackets. We quickly realized we were out of place when everyone else that was going were dressed like they were hitting the slopes. Every person that passed us also felt the need to stare us down, laugh, and even ask if we had other clothes hahah. But we toughed it out and were so glad we did because once we got inside the ice cave it really wasn't so bad.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjodbHT_crI/AAAAAAAAAdA/ub_RkHnm4yc/s1600-h/DSC02109.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348619859112456882" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjodbHT_crI/AAAAAAAAAdA/ub_RkHnm4yc/s200/DSC02109.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />This is what we had to climb up to get to the cave.<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoPXXFd7SI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/6OqUz-3Povs/s1600-h/DSC02070.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348604401464241442" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoPXXFd7SI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/6OqUz-3Povs/s200/DSC02070.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />This is right before we went in... looks cold huh!<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoPXvKQDSI/AAAAAAAAAbY/sJ0VK8O0mGk/s1600-h/DSC02073.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348604407926754594" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SjoPXvKQDSI/AAAAAAAAAbY/sJ0VK8O0mGk/s200/DSC02073.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Sjodbxe7WbI/AAAAAAAAAdQ/c0bR8SBmB5I/s1600-h/DSC02085.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348619870432614834" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Sjodbxe7WbI/AAAAAAAAAdQ/c0bR8SBmB5I/s200/DSC02085.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />We stayed warm in the ice cave by going up and down the 700 stairs throughout the cave. I know that there are "many" of you that have been waiting patiently for me to dazzle you with my words again, and I do apologize for the wait. Okay, enough with the crapski. (We just got back from the Czech Republic and a lot of things end with "ski", like "I would like a drinkski", "can I have a sausageski", by the way if you don't talk like this they don't understand, jk). </div><div><br /></div><div>We left on Wednesday night for Prague. Usually, it is about a four-hour drive, but apparently everyone else decided to drive to Prague on vacation too. Well there was also construction and they moved all of the traffic on to one side of the freeway. You know how in America, when they do this they just give give each direction one lane, well...in Germany they have come up with a much better idea. In Germany they squeeze all four lanes on to one side of the freeway (aka bad idea). So there is a wall, you, and a semi that is taking up your lane. After a change of underpants, we made it safely through the construciton and it was smooth sailing all the way to Prague. We got there at about 2 in the morning and luckily found our hotel. </div><div><br /></div><div>The first day we got down to the city and just as we got there, there was a guided tour leaving. We signed up and went on a six hour tour of the city, which included lunch and a boat ride. It was so awesome! Prague has an amazing history. The tour guide was able to tell us some interesting information about how Prague was before the Iron Curtain came down in 1989. </div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Shloe4kMmqI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/4RZqdoe6UeE/s320/DSC01731.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339413713014004386" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/ShloeZyovyI/AAAAAAAAAZI/TAUh14pr8s0/s320/DSC01724.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339413704753069858" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Shls3ImkJKI/AAAAAAAAAZY/SGq5sna41ZQ/s1600-h/DSC01786.JPG"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Shls3ImkJKI/AAAAAAAAAZY/SGq5sna41ZQ/s320/DSC01786.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339418527682274466" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Shls3jVTZNI/AAAAAAAAAZo/rbbQpzejXDk/s1600-h/DSC01790.JPG"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Shls3jVTZNI/AAAAAAAAAZo/rbbQpzejXDk/s320/DSC01790.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339418534857630930" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Shls3ZRT03I/AAAAAAAAAZg/GlOH1vNY0ZA/s1600-h/DSC01805.JPG"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/Shls3ZRT03I/AAAAAAAAAZg/GlOH1vNY0ZA/s320/DSC01805.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339418532156527474" style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a><br /></div><div>So you are probably wondering what this picture is all about. Well Friday it was my birthday, and I wanted to go golfing so I did. There was a course within walking distance of our hotel (in Prague of all places) and I was able to rent some clubs and go play. This is a regular occurance right now because it isn't quite summer yet. So it usually rains a little about every day. We have to ride the bus or walk everywhere we go so there are many times we get caught in the rain. As we went grocery shopping last night it was quite the task to get home in the rain without our food getting all wet. I have to go to school again?<img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgQ6JRDi7BI/AAAAAAAAAWw/G2oa0oum0x4/s320/DSC01650.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333451789585017874" /><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgQ6JjsLpYI/AAAAAAAAAW4/wlwoBX8a_Kw/s320/DSC01651.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333451794587297154" /><div>Well actually the key word here is... I <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic; ">get</span></span> to go to school again! I quickly realized that I was going to be a bit lonely every day with Brock at work until six. I can only run, look at blogs, read books, and eat for so long. (well actually the eating thing goes on all day :) So I have enrolled in a class at an adult school where I will learn to speak German! These are some pictures of the room I am in. I have already gone twice and I absolutely love it! I go on MWF from 8:30-11:45. So it does take up a lot of my time, which is a good thing, and I have already learned a lot. My favorite part about the class is interacting with so many interesting people. There are eleven people in the class and we are all from different countries like: Bulgaria, Paraguay, China, Japan, Greece, Turkey, Sudan, U.S.A (that one is me), and Jamaica. It is such an awesome experience to have such different people come together to all try and learn a language. The cool Jamaican man that sits next to me does speak English so we try and help each other. The class is all taught in German for the full three hours because the instructor does not speak another language that everyone else could understand. So yes, even though I did graduate I am in school again and loving it! Here is a bit of what I have learned so far.....<div>Guten Tag. Mein name is Arrienne Winzeler. Ich komme aus Utah. Das ist in der U.S.A. Ich spreche Englisch und ein bisschen Deutsch.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgQ6Kg2O_5I/AAAAAAAAAXQ/DwCJjPEic5g/s320/DSC01647.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333451811004022674" /><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgQ6KTEPjHI/AAAAAAAAAXI/9qgY6nglzO4/s320/DSC01654.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333451807304682610" /></div><div>This is Waiblingin. This is the town that Brock works in and where I go to school. We ride the bus together in the mornings to get here. My favorite thing is to get a delicious ice cream cone. They have the best ice cream in Europe! (so it's a good thing they have the running trails as well eh!)<br /><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgQ6KKcN0kI/AAAAAAAAAXA/ATd2f7YCmIA/s320/DSC01652.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333451804989313602" /><br />The building in the background is the Bosch building where Brock works. He is loving his internship. He is busy all day, which is how he likes it!<br /><br /></div>Brock and Arriennehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16747583132741599355noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106365503995814665.post-3226479774157601072009-05-05T03:54:00.000-07:002009-05-05T04:39:02.584-07:00We Made It!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAhmkNXQHI/AAAAAAAAAWo/3UmCpkLlXxY/s1600-h/korb+pic.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAhmkNXQHI/AAAAAAAAAWo/3UmCpkLlXxY/s320/korb+pic.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332298905245139058" /></a><div>After months of planning, packing our lives into a storage unit, finishing every possible checklist, and flying for over 15 hours.... We finally made it to Germany! We live in a gorgeous village called Korb. It is a vineyard town, so every mountain surrounding it has a vineyard on it. There are trails throughout all the vineyards that you can bike, jog, hike, and just enjoy! This is the view from the top of a vineyard. I went on a long run our first day here and it was amazing! </div><div><br /><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAhMWfs6pI/AAAAAAAAAWA/IbCYhPTryNE/s320/DSC01634.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332298454887361170" /><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAfTYC6M5I/AAAAAAAAAV4/MAGVoLEXoNY/s320/DSC01633.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332296376539296658" /></div><div>This is the street that we live on. I finished my student teaching at Lakeview Elementary. I completely loved the experience I had there. I learned so much and I can't believe it is already over!</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAI9BR834I/AAAAAAAAAUA/HHO2CPNLmWc/s320/DSC01583.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332271803215437698" /><br /></div><div><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAK67GY-tI/AAAAAAAAAUg/rQPSXs7Nohw/s320/DSC01582.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332273966219852498" /><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>This is the second grade teacher I worked with and just absolutely loved!!! We became great friends and had a blast teaching together. This is us sporting our matching lunch boxes that she got as a going away present. I wish I could take her with me to my new school. She is an amazing, fun, and awesome teacher.</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAI86W9vNI/AAAAAAAAAT4/2MZjukg_EOY/s320/DSC01536.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332271801357417682" /></div><div>These were the cards that my 5th grade students had written me at the end of my teaching. They were so cute! These are definitely the "pay-off" moments for any teacher. </div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAI9fk390I/AAAAAAAAAUI/nAmXOObJIQQ/s320/DSC01608.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332271811347871554" /><br /></div><div>So after finishing all of my student teaching, I finally graduated! This was a very exciting day for me. I couldn't believe I had finally finished my four year degree. </div><div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAI9uvG5HI/AAAAAAAAAUQ/YsxMqPn9vzo/s320/DSC01612.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332271815417324658" /><br /></div><div>I could not have made it through without all these awesome girls there to help me. We all became great friends through the program and I will miss seeing them all the time!</div><div><br /></div><div><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAK7LfaMMI/AAAAAAAAAUo/OmcTp3y3Deg/s320/DSC01619.JPG" style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332273970619756738" /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAI9yhPqBI/AAAAAAAAAUY/9TKkvHnvv8k/s1600-h/DSC01616.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SgAI9yhPqBI/AAAAAAAAAUY/9TKkvHnvv8k/s320/DSC01616.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332271816432920594" /></a><br />I am so grateful to have such a supportive family that is always their cheering me on with whatever I am doing. So I was absolutely ecstatic to accept a job as a 2nd grade teacher at Shadow Valley Elementary in Ogden. It is a brand new school that just opened. It will replace Grandview Elementary. This is the job I have been hoping for since December! I know a lot of the faculty at this school and they are awesome! It was also a great blessing to have the job before I left for Germany. My prayers have definitely been answered. <br /><br /></div></div></div></div>Brock and Arriennehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16747583132741599355noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106365503995814665.post-75370316198489285392009-04-14T17:53:00.000-07:002009-04-14T18:14:24.848-07:00Some fun amidst the craziness...Our lives have been pretty crazy lately! We are on the countdown to our adventurous summer in Germany and to my graduation- Yay! (I graduate May 1st and we fly out May 2nd aaahhh!) We are so excited but we have lots to do before we go. Luckily, we have been able to find time for some fun with our fabulous families!<br /><div><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUyeg7ozBI/AAAAAAAAATo/gjw2yaYPff0/s1600-h/DSC01567.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324717634253016082" style="WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUyeg7ozBI/AAAAAAAAATo/gjw2yaYPff0/s320/DSC01567.JPG" border="0" /></a></div><div>We had the awesome opportunity to go see "Wicked" last week. It was AMAZING!! Our sweet and generous Aunt Luann gave us the tickets for Christmas. It was such a fun family memory. I have been listening to the soundtrack non-stop since and I would have to say my voice is quite similar to the soundtrack (haha I wish! but I do sound pretty good in the shower)<br /></div><div> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUyeSxP37I/AAAAAAAAATg/RNvDITART_4/s1600-h/DSC01565.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324717630451343282" style="WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUyeSxP37I/AAAAAAAAATg/RNvDITART_4/s320/DSC01565.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />I was also able to have a fabulous girls trip with my sisters and my mom down to Las Vegas. We went to visit my sister Shannon and her adorable kids. This is my cute niece Vienna<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUyd7lUvhI/AAAAAAAAATY/7qCYFQ0mRmI/s1600-h/DSC01564.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324717624227315218" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUyd7lUvhI/AAAAAAAAATY/7qCYFQ0mRmI/s320/DSC01564.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div> Boston, Capree, Vienna, and me.... It is definitely one of our guilty pleasures.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUydXAWKKI/AAAAAAAAATI/i7NK9NkpCBE/s1600-h/DSC01558.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324717614408542370" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5bLr5PM3ROc/SeUydXAWKKI/AAAAAAAAATI/i7NK9NkpCBE/s320/DSC01558.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />Yes that's right we are wearing matching outfits. We all bought the same shirts and thought it would be so fun to wear them the next day. It turned out to be a little more embarrassing than fun once we noticed the stares we were getting. But hey it's all about the memories right? It was definitely a girls trip with lots of shopping, food, and fun.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Brock and Arriennehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16747583132741599355noreply@blogger.com9
